Local 4216's Purpose
The purpose of this organization is to increase the popularity of our common interests, strive to reach our common goals, and enhance the quality of work life for all working people. We want to save the shrinking middle class America and we hope to do this by adding new members by organizing the unorganized. It is a matter of record that a union organized worker has higher wages, better healthcare and a better chance of job security than an unorganized worker. Through the years, a unionized workplace gets negative feedback from the public, when they are forced to go on strike. An uninformed public doesnt know the issues involved, or why some one would walk a picket line. We feel if they were more informed, they would understand that to strike is a last resort; there are times when employers are unwilling to be reasonable. When a contract expires, and a new one has to be negotiated. We want everyone to realize that most of the people that are making decent wages and have decent benefits are the ones who have bargaining units that fight for them and look out for their interest and places the working person on a more leveled playing field. We want them to look around and do the math, Teachers, Nurses, Bus Drivers, Policemen, Fireman, and most of what is considered middle class all belong to unions. We want them to note that profess-ional athletes, actors, and most of the movie industry belong to a union; even Doctors were trying to organize a union. I encourage every working American to do research on why they should want to work in a union organized workplace. When a workplace gets organized, we grow and expand; this increases our strength, and helps us all to accomplish our goals for decent wages, healthcare, and job security more quickly. By developing, and educating our members and the public, our organization will become even stronger.
Our Mission
Our mission is to further promote the interests and concerns of our organization to our members and to the community. We strive to make a difference by educating the public and expanding our reach. We want to have politicians in office that share our concerns regarding issues like Medicare, employment, and keeping the products that are bought by Americans made by Americans. The only way we will accomplish this to use our power at the voting booths. The future regarding healthcare, living wages, education, employment, and equal opportunities for all working people depends on how well we organize ourselves to voice our concerns and how many of us use our power vote to insure our voices are heard.
In Unity,
Mabel Huff,
President, CWA Local 4216
